BioFET Monolithic Integration

Main content start

Popular current methods for measuring bio-analytes such as glucose, dopamine and serotonin in physiological conditions happen electrochemically or optically. Biosensing actively, via a bioFET, seems to have hit a wall, not reaching the same reliable and stable performance as its counterparts. However, bioFETs have great advantages such as IC integration, scaling and extremely high theoretical sensitivity. Research in silicon bioFETs has been exhausted, new materials and device structures need to be investigated such as carbon nanotubes and amorphous oxide. When the bioFET meets the specification for in-vivo biosensing applications, it will be monolithically integrated to create biosensing SoCs.
